30 x 20″ Oil on 3/8″ deep canvas.
One early morning drive from Kelowna to Calgary I stopped at Bear Creek Falls in Glacier National Park – as I had never been. After a 15 minute hike through what seemed West Coast rain forest, the path winds down to the creek bed. Looking up, the sun was just starting to peek through the mists of the waterfall, bouncing off the golden leaves of the adjacent tree nearer to me and creating a warm reflection over the cool waters. It felt like this would be a place for mystical creatures to dwell. At the end of the path the waterfall was just beginning to make its appearance teasing me with the promise of the awe I feel when standing in front of such natural power.
The aim for this painting was to capture the contrasting light, the mystical setting and the tease of the waterfall.
